Mandya:  Tension gripped Karnataka’s Mandya District on Wednesday night after allegedly stones were pelted at a Ganesh Idol procession near a dargah on Mysuru Ro located in Nagamangala town. During incident, several people including a few police personnel sustained injuries. As tension prevailed in town, police h to use lathi-charges to bring situation under control.

According to sources, incident occurred, while youths of Barikoppalu village h taken out a Ganesha idol immersion procession in town. As procession was about to cross ro near a dargah, a heated argument erupted between Hindu and people from Muslim community over procession being taken on Mysuru ro.

Reports suggested that during altercation, a few miscreants allegedly started pelting stones at procession. Not only this, it is being alleged that a few miscreants even displayed lethal weapons.

Meanwhile, people participating in procession, irked by stone pelting incident, placed Ganesha idol in front of police station, and staged a massive protest seeking justice. More people gared outside police station after learning about incident. y staged a protest demanding police to give permission to take out a procession on Mysuru Ro.

A group h also set fire to a few shops and torched tyres and expressed ir outrage. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to spot and doused fire.

Due to incident, vehicle riders plying on Mysuru-Nagamangala-Bellur ro chose to pass on alternative ro via Bindiganavile, Bogi route. Police higher officers are camping in village and ditional police are deployed as a precautionary measure.
