TN, UP govts acquire over 450 hectares of land to build 2 Defence Industrial Corridors
The Ministry of Defence informed Rajya Sabha that land has been acquired for the two Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Ministry of Defence on Monday informed Rajya Sabha that lands have been acquired for two Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) in Uttar Presh and Tamil Nu. information regarding development was shared by Minister of State (MoS) Defence Ajay Bhatt in a written reply to Samajwi Party (SP) leer and Rajya Sabha MP Rewati Raman Singh.
Land acquired for Defence Industrial Corridors
MoS in his reply stated that Centre has established two Defence Industrial Corridors one each in UP and Tamil Nu. Furrmore, he informed that Uttar Presh Defence Industrial Corridor has six identified nodes - Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Kanpur and Lucknow.

As for Tamil Nu, five nodes have been identified - Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem and Tiruchirappalli. lands have been acquired by respective state governments to facilitate public-private sector for investment in two DICs, Bhatt's response ded. statement furr put forth state-wise details of land acquired by both state governments. It revealed that 196.7853 hectares of land has been acquired in Uttar Presh while 283.28 hectares of land has been acquired in Tamil Nu.
MoS has remarked that DICs aim to boost defence manufacturing ecosystem through synergistic development of technologies, promote growth of private domestic manufacturers, including MSMEs and Start-Ups. Currently, both DICs are in ir formative stages. Speaking about Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) signed with private industries, Ministry of Defence ded that:

"In UPDIC, Uttar Presh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), nodal agency, has signed 55 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with private industries, worth potential investments of Rs.7449.33 crore,"

Public-Private investments me in DICs
Highlighting public-private investments so far, Defence Ministry also informed that total investment me in UPDIC and TNDIC are Rs.1236.10 crore and Rs.2252.28 crore respectively. DICs are being me to produce ammunition, components of aerospace industries, missile systems. In dition, establishment of research and development facilities has also been envisaged in two DICs. As for expected employment opportunities, Centre has not given a concrete response but it is estimated by state governments that UPDIC has potential to generate employment for more than 16,700 persons, and TNDIC has potential to generate employment for 25,000 persons in coming years.
