Four Girls Drown in Pond While Collecting Lotus Plants in UP's Bahraich
The police reported on Tuesday that four girls, aged between 10 to 14 years, tragically drowned in a village pond in Bahraich.
Bahraich, UP: Four girls, aged between 10 to 14 years, tragically drowned in a village pond in Bahraich on Tuesday, police reported. According to the police, the victims, Mehak Khatoon (14), Samia (10), Saiba (10), and Sarikul Khatoon (13), were attempting to pull lotus plants from the pond when they accidentally slipped into deep water.
The incident occurred in Sattijor village, located under the Nawabganj police station area. According to authorities, the girls were in the pond when they lost their footing and drowned. Despite efforts to rescue them, all four were confirmed dead at the scene.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nanpara, Ashwini Kumar Pandey, confirmed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and announced financial aid of Rs 4 lakh each for the grieving families.
This tragic incident has left the village in deep shock, highlighting the need for water safety awareness in rural areas.
