Erode: In a tragic road accident, a woman and her grandson were killed when a speeding car rammed into their motorcycle near Tamil Nadu’s Erode, police said on Saturday.

The two deceased have been identified as R Nandakumar (24) and his grandmother, P Saraswathi (62).

According to the police, the accident took place when the two were returning to Bangalapudur after visiting their relatives in Jambai.

“When they approached the Kalungu Lake on the Bhavani-Appakudal state highway, a speeding car which was coming from the opposite direction rammed their motorcycle. Both Nandakumar and Saraswathi were thrown off the motorcycle and died on the spot,” police said.

The bodies have been recovered and shifted to the government hospital in Bhavani for postmortem.

“A case has been registered and further probe is on,” an official said.

Earlier, four people, including two girls, tragically lost their lives when their motorcycle collided head-on with a diesel tanker on the Thachanallur Bypass railway flyover in Tirunelveli. The victims—Kannan (45), his daughters Mariswari (12) and Sameera (7), and his father-in-law Andal (65)—were residents of the Rajapati area near Gangaikondan.

The accident occurred as the two-wheeler was passing the Ulagamaman temple on the bypass, when the tanker, traveling from Cheranmahadevi in the opposite direction, struck it violently, throwing all four onto the road, where they died instantly. Police have dispatched the bodies to the Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
