8 Trains Cancelled, 10 Diverted as Rain Wreaks Havoc in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

According to sources, as many as 8 trains have been cancelled by the South Central Railway (SCR), further worsening the woes of commuters.

Hyderabad: As heavy rains continue to pound Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the normal life has been severely affected in the region. As many areas remain inundated, the India Railways has cancelled, diverted and short terminated many trains, giving passengers a harrowing time.

According to sources, as many as eight trains have been cancelled by the South Central Railway (SCR), further worsening the woes of commuters.

In the wake of to heavy rains and waterlogging over the tracks at several locations on the South Central Railway, 10 trains have been diverted.

Due to disruptions in train services, nearly 6,000 passengers were left stranded at various stations. Additionally, railway track near Intakanne railway station was washed away yesterday due to heavy rain. The restoration work on the tracks is underway. A railway track near Intakanne railway station acts as a bride between Kesamudram and Intakanne. The work is expected to be over by tomorrow evening.

Speaking about the damage, South Central Railway, General Manager Arun Kumar Jain said, "The damage has been done at 418 km and 432 km. Here (at 418 km), the damage was done at 5 places, out of which we have attended 4 spots and this is the last and major spot. Similarly, at 432 km, 4 spots sustained the damage, out of which we have attended 3 spots of damage and the major one is left. We are trying to restrain the water flow right now...This work (restoration work) is expected to be completed by tomorrow evening...We have cancelled several long-distance trains and some trains have been diverted...It is important for the safety of the people"
 

Meanwhile, the Palair Reservoir in Khammam District is in spate due to heavy rains over the last few days in the state.

Further, in Andhra Pradesh, CM Chandrababu Naidu conducted a survey in flood-hit areas on a boat and met the affected families and assured them of all possible assistance. Naidu said, “We are streamlining the system. 110 boats are currently working to supply food and provide medical assistance. I am regularly monitoring the flood situation and officials are actively working on the ground. Since last night, I have visited many flood-affected areas. The public should not panic. We are setting up command and control centres in the flood-affected regions.” 

More Rain in Store for Today

The weather department has predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy and Mahabubnagar districts of Telangana till 8:30 am on Monday.

Several places in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh are also likely to experience rainfall. Parts of Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada and Nandyala districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
