Georgetown: In a historic move, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received highest civilian award from Guyana and Dominica for his contributions during COVID-19 pandemic and his exceptional contributions to global community and efforts in strengning bilateral ties with two Caribbean nations.

While accepting both awards, Prime Minister dedicated both awards to people of India and deep-rooted historical ties between people of two countries, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release.

prime minister, who is currently in Guyana on last leg of his three-nation visit, was conferred ‘ Order of Excellence’ by Guyanese President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday.

"Sincerely thank President Dr Irfaan Ali, for conferring upon me Guyana's highest honour, ' Order of Excellence.' This is a recognition of 140 crore people of India," PM Modi said in a post on X.

"This is living proof of your deep commitment towards our relations which will continue to inspire us to move forward in every field," he said while accepting award.

Modi is fourth foreign leer to be conferred with highest National award of Guyana, according to ministry.

Dominica Honours PM With Highest Honour

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his gratitude and deep satisfaction after Dominica conferred him with its highest honour for his contributions to Caribbean nation during COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengning ties between two nations.

During ceremony, Prime Minister extended this honour to people of India, saying, "This honour is not only mine but of 140 crore people of India, ir efforts, ir values and ir trition. We are two democracies, and we toger are role models of women's empowerment for world. It is a matter of deep satisfaction that we were able to help people of Dominica during a pandemic like Covid-19."

PM Modi in a post on X shared glimpses of ceremony with caption reing, “Honoured to be conferred with highest national award by Dominica. I dedicate it to 140 crore people of India.

Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced its top award to Prime Minister a few days ago saying, " In February 2021, Prime Minister Modi supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine — a generous gift which enabled Dominica to extend support to its Caribbean neighbours."

In accepting offer of award, Prime Minister Modi emphasised on importance of collaboration in tackling global challenges such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts, affirming India's commitment to working alongside Dominica and Caribbean in dressing se issues.
