Unhappy with Yamuna cleaning, NGT asks Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh to deposit Rs 10 crore each
The National Green Tribunal Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the cleaning of river Yamuna and directed Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments to submit a performance guarantee of Rs 10 crore each within a month.

A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed state governments to furnish a performance guarantee with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to ensure re was furr lapse in this regard.

It directed that steps be taken by three states at earliest for disposal of municipal solid waste, cleaning of drains and ensuring cleaning of garb. order came after perusing interim report filed by monitoring committee comprising retired expert member B S Sajwan and former Delhi chief secretary Shailaja Chandra.

monitoring committee in its action plan submitted has recommended a study to assess environmental flow of Yamuna river for stretch between Hathanikund and Okhla.
It said river was "fighting to stay alive" and it would t be possible to rejuvenate it unless minimum environmental flow was provided. With regard to idol immersion, committee has asked authorities in city to look for possibility of creating artificial ponds and pits in various localities.
NGT had earlier asked Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments to consult members of monitoring committee appointed by tribunal for constituting ir own full time committees.

tribunal had expressed displeasure that despite its specific order, status of compliance was unkwn, and said re appeared to failure of authorities in performing ir duties, thus undermining rule of law.
green panel had said pollution in Yamuna was of serious concern as it was highly contaminated with industrial effluents and sew. It had also asked Haryana pollution control board to conduct a study of water quality and flow of Yamuna at point it enters Haryana, and submit list of industries located in catchment area.
green panel had ted that almost 67 per cent of pollutants that enter Yamuna would be treated by two sew treatment plants at Delhi Gate and Najafgarh under first phase of Maili se Nirmal Yamuna Revitalisation project.
