Unnao: Farmers stage protest to demand compensation for land acquired by UPSIDA

On Saturday, clashes broke out between police and the farmers in Unnao, who staged a protest demanding compensation for their land acquired by the UPSIDA.

On Saturday, clashes broke out between police and the farmers in Unnao, who staged a protest. The latter pelted stones at the JCB machine that was supposed to be used for carrying out work for the upcoming Trans Ganga City project. The farmers stated that they had not received compensation for their land acquired by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA). Besides the officers of the Tehsil department, numerous security personnel rushed to the site of the protest.

A protester mentioned that they were demanding justice for the last three years. Claiming that their land had been forcefully acquired by the UPSIDA, he stated that the people wanted requisite compensation. At the same time, he maintained that the work for the Trans Ganga City project could start after the fulfillment of their demands. Another protester revealed that he was not getting any loans from the bank owing to the absence of any property in his name.

A protester remarked, "We are demanding justice from the past 3 years as our land has been forcefully acquired by the UPSIDA for trans-Ganga city project. We want compensation. UPSIDA can start the work after fulfilling our demands. No discussions were held during the acquisition.” Another protester added, "I am not getting loans from the bank as we do not possess any land. So far, we have not received any compensation for our acquired land. I do not what to do now."

The Trans Ganga City

The high-tech Trans Ganga City is a new proposed satellite township in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. Falling under the Kanpur metropolitan area, it comprises the region from the limits of the Unnao municipality to the Ganga river near Kanpur and the Unnao-Shuklaganj highway. There is also a proposal by the state government to open a Skill Development University near this township.
