Unnao rape case: SC takes cognisance of survivor's letter to CJI alleging threats, to take matter up on Thursday

Supreme Court, on Wednesday, took cognisance of Unnao rape survivor's letter dressed to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and sought a report from its secretary-general as to why it h t been brought to his tice.

19-year-old rape survivor, in her letter to CJI on July 12, h expressed apprehension of threat to her life. Speaking on matter, CJI Gogoi said that it is unfortunate that letter is yet to be re by him, while it is circulated in media.

"Unfortunately, letter is yet to see light of day and yet newspapers flashed it as if I have re letter," Justice Gogoi said.

CJI-led bench, also comprising of justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose, stated that with media circulating letter, it gave impression that action was taken by top court. bench also assured to take action in "highly volatile situation".

This development came after senior vocate V Giri, who is assisting court in suo motu case on alarming rise in child rapes, sought urgent hearing of Unnao rape case. Meanwhile, top court has asked Uttar Presh authorities to file a status report by Thursday on accident of Unnao rape case victim. Furrmore, matter has been listed for hearing on Thursday in court. 

Unnao rape survivor writes to CJI

As per reports, a copy of letter, which was written by survivor and two of her family members, was also sent to Allahab High Court and Uttar Presh government authorities. It claimed that some people have been threatening family of rape survivor and men are allegedly associated with BJP MLA. Signed by girl, her mor and aunt, letter stated that on July 7 few relatives of BJP MLA Senger came to ir house and threatened m.

Unnao rape survivor's accident

19-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar two years ago in 2017 at his residence in Unnao, met with a car accident on Sunday in which two of her aunts died. She and her vocate suffered serious injuries after ir car was hit by a speeding truck in Raebareli. Her family has claimed conspiracy behind car crash.

CBI books Kuldeep Senger and 10 ors

On Wednesday, July 31, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR against suspended-BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 ors in connection with accident. Furrmore, CBI also registered a case against 20 unkwn persons under criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder & criminal intimidation in matter.
