Siddharthnagar: Three people were killed and 24 others injured after a bus fell into a drain while trying to avoid a cyclist. The bus, carrying 53 passengers, was en route from Balrampur to Siddharthnagar. The incident took place in the Dhebaruwa area of Siddharthnagar district.
The driver lost control of the bus while attempting to avoid a cyclist, but ended up colliding with the bicycle before plunging into the drain near Chargahwa, police reported.
Two passengers, including a teenager, and the cyclist died in the accident.
"Three people, including a teenager, died in the accident which occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting a cyclist," police said.
The cyclist was identified as Mangni Ram, 50, a resident of Khurhuria, while the two passengers were Ajay Verma, 14, and Gamma, 65, both residents of Mohankola village, according to the police.
Additionally, more than two dozen people were injured and are receiving treatment at CSC Barhni and the district hospital in Siddharthnagar, the SP added.
