UP By-Election 2024: Uttar Pradesh is set to witness by-polls on 10 assembly seats months after the conclusion of Lok Sabha elections. As per sources, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has decided its candidates for seven of the 10 seats going to polls. The 10 assembly seats had become vacant after their incumbent lawmakers contested Lok Sabha polls. The dates for the by-polls are yet to be declared by the Election Commission of India. Lets take a look at candidates fielded by the Samajwadi party on 7 seats.

- Karhal seat: Former MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav
- Milkipur seat: Ajit Kumar
- Katehari: Chhaya Verma
- Kundarki: Former MLA Rizwan
- Meerapur: Former MLA Qadir Rana
- Sisamau: Irfan Solanki's wife
- Khair: Om Pal Singh
After the Lok Sabha polls, the Samajwadi Party is also hoping for a better performance in the assembly by-elections.
A Look At 2022 UP Assembly Results
Of the 10 assembly seats on which by-elections are to be held, SP had won 5 of these seats in the 2022 elections. The Samajwadi Party is trying to retain its performance on 5 seats as well as capture some more.
In the 2022 assembly elections, Karhal, Sisamau, Milkipur, Katehari and Kundarki were won by the Samajwadi Party while Khair, Ghaziabad and Phulpur fell into Bharatiya Janata Party kitty. The Majhawan seat was won by Nishad Party and Meerapur by Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate.
Why By-Elections Are taking Place in UP?
These 10 assembly seats had become vacant after Lok Sabha results as the incumbent lawmakers from 9 seats were elected as MPs, including Akhilesh Yadav and the remaining one seat Sisamau had fallen vacant after SP leader Irfan Solanki was disqualified.
