Maharajganj: A local court in UP's Maharajganj convicted a Bangladeshi citizen for infiltrating into India using fake documents, and sentenced him to two years imprisonment.
Riyaz Molal, who was coming to India from Nepal, was arrested by the immigration department from Nichlaul area of the India-Nepal border as his documents were found to be fake upon investigation, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aatish Kumar Singh said.
On Saturday, Additional District Judge Phool Chandra Kushwaha convicted Molal (37), sentencing him to two years in prison and imposing a fine of Rs 10,000. The court stated that if the fine is not paid, he will serve an additional two months in jail.
Molal was arrested on March 19, 2023, and charged under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Foreigners Act.
Criticizing the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for "supporting Bangladeshis and Rohingyas," Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that "every Jharkhandi feels unsafe" due to infiltrators. Speaking at a public rally in Jamshedpur, he highlighted that the Adivasi population in Santhal Pargana is "rapidly declining," and accused the JMM of enabling infiltrators to seize positions in local panchayats.
"In Santhal Pargana, the Adivasi population is decreasing rapidly. The lands are being grabbed. Infiltrators are taking over positions in panchayats. The incidents of crime against daughters are increasing... Every Jharkhandi is feeling unsafe because of the infiltrators... The JMM is standing with Bangladeshis and Rohingyas," he said.
