UP Govt Holds Talks With World Bank on Rs 3,903-cr Project to Boost Agri, Rural Enterprise

New Delhi: Uttar Presh government, Department of Ecomic Affairs (DEA) and World Bank on Friday held negotiations for Rs 3,903 crore Uttar Presh Agricultural Growth and Rural Enterprise Ecosystem Strengning project.

negotiations were held in New Delhi with Chief Secretary Maj Kumar Singh representing state government, according to a statement here.

six-year project aims to revitalise state's agriculture and allied sectors, enhance productivity and link smallholder farmers to high-value commodity clusters.

Singh outlined project's pivotal role in vancing state's vision to achieve a trillion-dollar ecomy by 2030, it said.

He highlighted that project will support high-value crop clusters and establish a stronger fisheries ecosystem, with particular focus on state's eastern and Bundelkhand regions, it ded.

project will also create a digital agriculture platform to provide real-time insights to farmers, helping optimise resources, increase resilience, and boost productivity.

"I am convinced that farmers of Uttar Presh can achieve great things if y are given exposure to best national and international practices," chief secretary said.

project's key components under discussion include climate-resilient productivity enhancement, development of value-ded commodity clusters, and strengning state's digital and financial ecosystems.

By mid-2025, Uttar Presh's Jewar airport is expected to become operational, providing furr export avenues for local produce, according to statement.

World Bank's Country Director for India, Auguste Ta Kouamé, voiced strong support for initiative, underscoring institution's commitment to assist Uttar Presh in implementing this transformative project, it said.

World Bank's board of executive directors is anticipated to review and consider project approval by mid-December 2024, it ded.
