UP Man Claims Daughter Killed Over Bypoll Voting; BJP, SP Blame Each Other

A Dalit woman was found dead with her family alleging she was killed as she refused to vote in favour of the Samajwadi Party in the Karhal assembly bypoll.

Mainpuri (UP): A 23-year-old Dalit woman was found de in Mainpuri district on Wednesday. Her family claimed she was killed because she refused to vote for Samajwi Party (SP) during Karhal assembly bypoll.  

Police have arrested two people accused of kidnapping and poisoning her.

woman's far filed a complaint at Karhal police station, accusing Prashant Yav, a resident of Tapa ki Nagaria, of abducting his daughter. He alleged that his daughter was kidnapped around noon on Tuesday and later poisoned by Yav with help of Dr. Mohan Karia.

"Both accused Dr. Mohan Karia and Prashant Yav named in FIR have been arrested and furr investigation is in progress," Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar told PTI.

BJP, SP Blame Each Or

BJP blamed SP for incident, claiming party created an atmosphere of fear.  

"In Karhal, Samajwi Party leer Prashant Yav and his associates murdered a Dalit girl just because she h refused to vote for 'cycle' (SP's election symbol). In Mainpuri, Saifai family and Akhilesh Yav's goons are again trying to create an atmosphere of terror," BJP's Uttar Presh unit posted on X, attaching a video of grieving far.

BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary also criticized SP on social media.  

SP denied allegations, with party chief Akhilesh Yav accusing BJP of misusing government machinery to influence bypolls.  

"This is a conspiracy to defame Samajwi Party by BJP, which often engages in such activities. This has nothing to do with SP," SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary told PTI.

SP also raised concerns about police actions during bypoll.  

"In Mainpuri's Karhal assembly constituency, Police Inspector Lalit Bhati is spreing fear in name of patrolling with force, which may affect voting. Election Commission should take cognizance and ensure fair voting," SP posted on X in Hindi along with a video of police patrolling.

Karhal is a family stronghold of SP. Tej Pratap Singh, grandson of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yav, is contesting bypoll against his relative Anujesh Pratap Singh from BJP. BSP and or smaller parties have also fielded candidates.  

bypoll was required after Akhilesh Yav vacated seat to serve as a Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj.
