Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is set to introduce a new parking policy that will bring changes to how vehicle owners are charged for parking, especially during night hours. Under the new guidelines, vehicle owners will have to pay parking fees for leaving their vehicles on public streets and spaces during the night. The Urban Development Department has proposed this policy under the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Provisional Regulations-2024, and objections and suggestions have been invited from the public.

Night-Time Parking Fees for Urban Areas

The new parking policy will introduce different charges based on the population of the city. In cities with a population of over 10 lakh, the night parking fee will be ₹50 for two-wheelers and ₹100 for four-wheelers. Additionally, between 11 PM to 6 AM, the proposed charges are ₹57 for two-wheelers and ₹120 for four-wheelers. Monthly parking passes will cost ₹855 for two-wheelers and ₹1,800 for four-wheelers in these larger cities.

For cities with a population of less than 10 lakh, the charges are lower, with ₹30 for two-wheelers and ₹60 for four-wheelers during the night. Between 11 PM and 6 AM, the fees will be ₹40 and ₹80, respectively, for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Monthly passes are priced at ₹600 for two-wheelers and ₹1,200 for four-wheelers.

Hourly Parking Rates Also Introduced

For areas with populations exceeding 10 lakh, parking fees will be applied by the hour. Two-wheelers will be charged ₹15 for two hours and ₹7 for one hour, while four-wheelers will be charged ₹30 for two hours and ₹15 for one hour. In smaller cities, these rates are lower, with ₹10 for two-wheelers and ₹20 for four-wheelers for two hours of parking.

Additionally, any vehicles parked without a permit will be charged three times the regular fees.

Public Invited for Suggestions

The Urban Development Department is welcoming suggestions and objections regarding the new parking policy. Citizens can send their inputs to the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department via email at nagarvikasanubhag9@gmail.com or send letters to Bapu Bhawan, Lucknow. Once the feedback is considered, the policy will be finalised with cabinet approval before being officially implemented.
