US President Donald Trump on Tuesday termed the Pulwama terrorist attack, perpetrated by Pakistan backed Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit, in which 40 Indian CRPF personnel were killed, as "horrible situation", and stated that he would issue a statement in the matter of terrorism.

"I have watched. I have got a lot of reports on it. We will have a comment (on it) at an appropriate time. It would be wonderful if they (India and Pakistan) get along," he said in response to a question.

Bolton had telephoned India's NSA Ajit Doval on the morning of February 16 to express his condolences for the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and offered the US' full support to India in confronting terrorism.

"I told Ajit Doval today that we support India's right to self-defense. I have spoken to him twice, including this morning... and expressed US' condolences over the terrorist attack," he said to news agency PTI.

"The United States calls on Pakistan to end immediately the support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operating on its soil, whose only goal is to sow chaos, violence, and terror in the region," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a late night statement on Thursday.

The February 14 attack has led to an escalation of tension between India and Pakistan and Trump told reporters at the Oval Office of White House that it would be "wonderful" if the two South Asia neighbours get along. The security personnel were killed when a JeM terrorist rammed an explosive-laden car into a vehicle carrying them.
