Uttarakhand on high alert, security tightened amid anti-CAA protests
Security forces were put on high alert across Uttarakhand in view of protests against the CAA; leaves of all the police officials have also been cancelled

Security forces on Sunday were put on high alert across Uttarakhand in view of protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Due to continuous demonstration, leaves of all police personnel have also been cancelled in state.
Section 144 imposed
State DG Law and Order Ashok Kumar has issued instructions to Superintendents of Police of all districts to be vigilant. Police hequarters in Dehrun and Haridwar have also been directed to maintain high vigil in cities. Section 144 that prohibits assembly of four or more people in an area, was imposed in Haridwar on Saturday, keeping in view of protest scheduled on Sunday in city against contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Bhim Army is said to hold a protest march against CAA in Haridwar on Sunday.

"Extra force is being deployed here and those who cause nuisance will t be spared," said Ashok Kumar, Director General (Law and Order), Haridwar.

Protest against CAA
Political parties, organisations, and students are holding nationwide protests to oppose Citizenship Amendment Act for last few days. Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Banglesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
Lok Sabha on vember 28 passed Bill to provide ownership title to over 40 lakh people in unauthorised colonies in national capital. Bill seeks to recognise and confer rights of ownership or transfer or mortg to residents of such colonies on basis of power of attorney, agreement of sale, will, possession letter, and or documents.
