VHP calls for Rahul Gandhi to fight for construction of Ram Mandir, says 'will welcome his support for us'

After a high-level meet was called on Friday by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) over the issue concerning the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a press briefing was held the very same day, wherein they spoke about their plans and demands.

During the interaction with media, the VHP leaders challenged and called out for Rahul Gandhi to support their cause, stating the Congress president 'considers himself as an ardent Shiv bhakt.'

"These days, there is a political leader who wears Janeu, visits the Mansarover and calls himself a 'Ram Bhakt' in the posters made for their political campaigns. We will welcome his support for us," said the VHP leader while speaking on the matter.

This statement comes on the wake of Rahul Gandhi's visit to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in September. Many times in the recent past, a number of Congress members have called him as a 'Shiv-bhakt' and 'Janaeudhari Brahmin'.

Further during the interaction, the VHP went onto to state that they have never supported any political organization closely, but if the Bharatiya Janta Party will join in their cause for the construction of Ram Temple, then they can consider that option.

Following the meeting of the saints, VHP-led backers of Ram Mandir have given an ultimatum to the government on the matter of Ayodhya dispute. They had stated that the parliament should chalk out a law on the construction of Ram Mandir by bringing in an ordinance, failing to do so, the groups will take the matter into their own hands. Later, they went to meet President Ram Nath Kovind requesting him to pass the ordinance in order to speed up the process of the construction of the Ram Mandir.

This meeting took place days after the Supreme Court's verdict on the Ayodhya matter, wherein a three-bench judge, in a 2:1 judgment, ruled that the case will not be referred to a larger bench and ruled that the matter will be treated as a ‘land issue’.
