Thane: As heavy rains continue to lash Maharashtra's Plaghar region, traffic on Manor Wada Road was halted after the temporary route was created and constructed over the Deherja River, the bridge submerged in water causing severe traffic disruption as the movement between Wada and Manor remained affected.

This comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Palghar reciting very heavy showers over the next three hours, district disaster management cell chief Vivekanand Kadam told PTI.

He added that due to heavy rains, search operations for an excavator and its operator which were undertaken by various agencies at Sasun Navghar in Palghar have been stopped for now.

There were instances of tree branches falling in the city, he said.

Similarly, Maharashtra's Thane regions have also been witnessing heavy rain on Thursday.

According to Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi, the city received 35.51 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday.

He added that Thane has received 228.93 mm of rainfall this monsoon season so far as compared to 50.70 mm in the same period last year.
