Chennai: An Emirates flight bound for Dubai was delayed on Tuesday evening at Chennai International Airport after smoke was detected from the aircraft's wing. The incident occurred around 9:15 PM, shortly before the flight's scheduled departure.

Passengers on the flight, which carried 280 individuals, witnessed smoke emanating from the wing area and the tail end of the aircraft. A video circulating online shows smoke rising from the back of the plane.

The ground staff noticed the smoke while refueling the aircraft and promptly alerted the pilots, who shut down the engines. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to manage the situation, which was under control within approximately ten minutes. Technical experts inspected the aircraft to determine if any repairs were necessary before take-off.

The flight with all its passengers later left for Dubai at 12.40 am, airport officials said on Wednesday.

An Emirates spokesperson confirmed that flight EK547 from Chennai to Dubai was delayed due to a technical fault. Following an engineering inspection, the aircraft was cleared for departure. The flight eventually left for Dubai at 12:40 AM on Wednesday. The spokesperson stated, “Emirates apologises for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is of the utmost importance.”
