Video of 9-yr-old Manipuri girl crying over felling of trees goes viral, gets appointed as ambassador for 'Green Manipur Mission'

A nine-year-old Manipuri girl has set an example by becoming State government's “Green Ambassador” for CM N. Biren Singh's 'Green Manipur Mission'. 

In a video that surfaced online shows the class 5 student Valentina Elangbam crying after some trees planted by her were chopped down. The Kakching District resident has since won praises from netizens. Watch the video here:

According to reports, Valentina who studies in Amutombi Divine Life School in Hiyanglam Wabagai planted two Gulmohar trees when she was in first grade. The trees were planted on a riverbank close to her locality. However, authorities cut down the trees in a bid to cleanup the riverbank which deeply hurt her.  

"I planted the trees and I love them. It pains me to see them being cut down." said Valentina

As soon as the video came up, it garnered thousands of views and people were in awe. Surprisingly, the video caught Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's attention and he wasted no time and appointed her as the brand ambassador for his Green Manipur Mission Scheme.

“We are very grateful to the government for such an honour being given to my daughter. As a mother I feel very proud of my daughter,” said her mother Shaya.

Valentina will now be an ambassador for the CM's scheme for a year. Reports also stated that Valentina was provided additional saplings meant to be planted in her locality. In addition, she will also be involved in several government-sponsored tree plantation programmes including the one during the World Environment Day in 2020 and Van Mahotsava. Her passion for the environment and the recognition by the state government were praised by many online.
