Lakhimpur: Yogesh Verma, the BJP MLA from Lakhimpur, was assaulted during a dispute over elections for the local urban cooperative bank. The altercation occurred while Verma was present at the election office supporting a candidate filing nomination papers.

Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern among the public. 

Tensions escalated when Verma raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the election process, prompting a heated exchange with a group of individuals. Eyewitnesses report that the situation quickly deteriorated, with Verma being slapped and physically confronted. 

Local police, who were present at the scene, intervened and escorted the MLA to safety.
