Bahraich: Sanjay Pathak, General Manager of the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, on Saturday said that search operations for the remaining two wolves have intensified adding that villagers in Bahraich are confusing wolves with Jackals.

The forest official highlighted that an incident of misinformation occured in this regard when villagers claimed that they had spotted wolves in their area, however, when officials monitored the animals through drones it turned out to be a jackal.

Villagers Confusing Wolves With Jackal

"Today, the villagers gave us the information that wolves are there in the sugarcane field. We used the drone and we succeeded in tracing them but later, they were found to be jackals... People are accepting the fact that they are confusing Jackals with wolves,” Pathak was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Pathak mentioned that, at present, they are only issuing warnings to those spreading rumors. However, if these rumors persist, they are contemplating involving the district administration and police to address the issue, as it disrupts their operations.

He also noted that snap cameras have been set up around the wolves' habitat to track their locations and gather information, which will aid in their rescue efforts.

The search operations were initiated following a wolf attack that resulted in the death of a three-year-old girl and injuries to two women. This incident has led to local outrage, with residents accusing the administration of negligence.
