Twitter has made it easy to voice one’s grievances, be it to the biggest leaders or platforms, but that also exposes one to trolls if the concerns are not fool-proof. Users of the microblogging platform faced such a situation recently when they complained of ‘vulgar’ ads on the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) portal of the Railways to book train tickets. The platform’s reply to the ‘aggrieved’ parties about how they were receiving the said advertisements due to their browsing history is going viral.

A Twitter user shared screenshots from the portal that contained advertisements of a lingerie brand, app for doctors to cure sexual problems and a website about reasons for extra-marital affairs. He captioned it, “Obscene and vulgar ads are very frequently appearing on the IRCTC ticket booking app. This is very embarrassing and irritating”, also tagging the Railway Ministry and Minister Piyush Goyal.

Another user also shared similar screenshots of a website to ‘connect’ and wrote, “I feel very bad during booking bcoz this type advertisement. Sir Pl look into this pls..”

The IRCTC portal’s straightforward reply is winning the Internet, “Irctc uses Googles ad serving tool ADX for serving ads. These ads uses cookies to target the user. Based on user history and browsing behaviour ads are shown. Pl clean and delete all browser cookies and history to avoid such ads.”
