Virat Kohli on what 'royal jail' means and how he handles trolls

Virat Kohli recently appeared in a candid interview with Graham Bensinger on his show. He spoke about how he deals with fame and explained the term 'royal jail'

Indian Skipper Virat Kohli recently appeared in an interview with Graham Bensinger for his YouTube channel. In the interview, he spoke about his views on fame, recognition and how he deals with social media trolls. The cricketer opened up about his struggle with fame and what went through when he and his wife, actor Anushka Sharma were the centre of a widespread troll incident in 2015, in the aftermath of the 2015 World Cup.

'Royal Jail' explained

The Cricketer revealed the meaning of the term 'royal jail'. He explained its meaning saying when they (Indian Cricket team) is on tour in the country, they are either on the field or in the hotel and are unable to go out at all. He also said that even though all the facilities are available in the hotel, they are still trapped in the hotel. On the other hand, the ace cricketer revealed that he loves being on tour overseas because he can freely go for walks and coffees without being noticed. When asked about how he deals with fame in India, the cricketer replied, "I don't even expect to lead a normal life in India anymore." The Cricketer also said that he misses doing normal chores like going to the supermarket and not being recognized.

Virat Kohli also spoke about the time his wife Anushka Sharma was trolled during the 2015 world cup. The actor was labelled as someone who brought "bad luck" by trolls who blamed her for Virat Kohli's poor performance, during the tournament. Recalling the time, the cricketer said that "People in our country love to blame women." He said that even a person who has no involvement in the game and is just watching or supporting the country can be blamed. He also added that he finds it surprising that people find pleasure in pulling other people down.

On the professional front

Virat Kohli recently became the only cricketer to score 20,000 international runs in a single decade. The Indian Cricket team recently won the ODI tournament 3-0 against West Indies. Prior to this test, Kohli had 26 Test wins under his belt. Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the most successful captains for the Indian Cricket Team.
