Was The Crime Scene Tampered in RG Kar Rape Murder? Here's How Kolkata Cops React on Viral Photo
The photograph, which went viral on social media, sparked controversy as it showed numerous people inside the seminar hall where the crime took place
Kolkata: Facing flak over the alleged discrepancies in the ongoing Abhaya probe, the Kolkata Police have dismissed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) claims that the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was 'compromised'. For the unversed, the CBI had alleged that the seminar hall, where a 31-year-old trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered earlier this month, had been tampered with and that the victim’s death was falsely presented to her family as a suicide.
The photograph, which went viral on social media, sparked controversy as it showed numerous people inside the seminar hall where the crime took place. In a statement, the Kolkata Police clarified that all individuals shown in a widely circulated photograph of the crime scene were fully authorized to be there.
Speaking to reporters, Indira Mukherjee, DCP Central of Kolkata Police, addressed these concerns, stating, “We are specifically addressing the photo in question. The area was cordoned off, with the body located behind it. I can confirm the identities of everyone in the picture—they are all part of the investigation team.”
Furthermore, the Kolkata Police emphasized that the photograph in question was taken on August 9, after the inquest had been completed, dismissing allegations of any unauthorized presence or tampering at the crime scene.
Was The Colour of the Bed Sheet Used to Cover Abhaya's Body Changed?
Earlier in the day, the Kolkata Police firmly denied allegations circulating on social media and television channels that the colour of the bed sheet covering the body of the trainee doctor had been altered during the investigation. Indira Mukherjee addressed the media, calling these claims unfounded and baseless.
"Today, we have seen that there are a few video clips which are viral on social media as well as in some television channels wherein there is a discussion that probably the colour of the curtain bed sheet which was used to cover the body was of a different colour than the previously declared colour that was blue," Mukherjee said.
Reports indicate that there were conflicting accounts from junior doctors and the victim's parents regarding the sheet's colour. While junior doctors reported the body was covered with a blue sheet, the victim's parents claimed they saw a green sheet when they viewed their daughter's body hours later.
Mukherjee refuted these claims, stating, “We have no evidence of a green sheet in our photo and video records. It was always blue.”
