Saharanpur: A leopard that strayed from the Shivalik forest towards a residential area in Saharanpur got trapped in the fencing wire of a farmer's field near Sherpur Pelo. The leopard seriously injured one of its legs as it became entangled in the wires.

As soon as the news of the trapped leopard was received, the forest department team arrived at the scene and managed the crowd of villagers.

Senior officials were informed, and Divisional Director of Social Forestry Division, Shweta Sen, arrived at the spot. After consulting with an experienced wildlife rescue team over the phone, the forest department initiated the rescue operation.

The department informed headquarters, after which the entire rescue team arrived. The team first sedated the leopard and then freed it by cutting the wires. The leopard was then placed in a cage. The entire process took about five hours.

One of the leopard's claws was badly caught in the barbed wire, resulting in injury. The treatment of the leopard is ongoing.
