West Bengal: Rare two-headed snake found in Ekarukhi village

A two-headed snake was reportedly found in West Bengal's Ekarukhi village of Belda forest range which belongs to Naja Kautia species also known as Bengal Kharis

A rare two-heed snake was found in West Bengal's Ekarukhi vill of Belda forest range. According to zoologist Soma Chakraborty double-heed snake belongs to Naja Kaouthia species, also kwn as Bengal Kharis. Forest Department, however, was unable to rescue snake as mythological believer villrs didn't want to hand snake over to department. Kaustav Chakroborty who is a Herpetologist said that snake could have lived longer as longevity of such species increases by keeping m in captivity. He furr ded that life and of this snake can also be increased if it is preserved. 

Kaustav said, “This is totally a biological issue like a human being can have two hes or thumbs similarly this snake has two hes. This doesn't have to do anything related to mythological belief”.

Similarly, Soma said, “re is mythological thing in this case. re are many factors behind formation of two he. It might be formed at time of splitting of embryo or maybe due to some environmental factors".

Snakeskin with seven hes

In ar similar incident, a snakeskin which h seven hes h been discovered in Marigowdana Doddi vill in Kanakpura. After discovery, many villrs started visiting place where snake's skin was found which according to ir belief was of a Seven-heed serpent. According to locals of that area, skin was found next to a temple and temple angle grabbed interest of public as y considered it to be a miracle. People who went to site to see skin offered it 'kumkum' and 'Haldi' which are considered auspicious for Hindu rituals.

A video appeared online and went viral where one could see different pictures of snakeskin and snake itself. Few pictures showed snakeskin having offerings of flowers, turmeric and auspicious red powder. A villr while speaking to media said that y thought place h exceptional powers so y built a temple over re and w skin of a seven-heed snake has been discovered in area nearby. A temple worker was cleaning premises when skin was spotted and area is just 10 feet away from main temple.
