Senior IAS officer Alka Tiwari on Saturday assumed charge as the new chief secretary of poll-bound Jharkhand.

Ranchi: Senior IAS officer Alka Tiwari on Saturday assumed charge as new chief secretary of poll-bound Jharkhand . Election Commission on Friday accepted Jharkhand government's proposal to appoint Tiwari as chief secretary ahe of assembly polls in Jharkhand, scheduled in two phases on vember 13 and 20.
Tiwari, who is from 1988 batch, is currently senior-most IAS officer in cre.

" proposal for appointment has been approved by Election Commission of India," a tification issued by Department of Personnel, ministrative Reforms and Rajbhasha said on Friday.
She succeeds Lalbiaktluanga Khiangte as chief secretary.

Tiwari's husband and 1986-batch IAS officer Dr DK Tiwari h earlier held topmost bureaucratic post in state.
Alka Tiwari is a postgruate in psychology from Meerut University and h received goverr's gold medal for acemic excellence.

She did her MSc from University of Manchester in UK, where she excelled in 'Manment and Implementation of Development Projects' course and received gold medal. ditionally, she is a law gruate from Ranchi University, government said in ar statement.
She has also completed short-term courses on 'Rethinking Financial Inclusion' from Harvard University, USA, and 'Public Fiscal Manment for Financial visors' from Duke University, USA.

She has held various positions, including that of deputy commissioner of Gumla and Lohardaga districts in Jharkhand.
Tiwari has also served as secretary in departments of commercial taxes and forest & environment. Moreover, she was an visor in Niti Aayog, joint secretary, and ditional secretary in department of fertilisers, as well as ditional secretary-cum-financial visor in departments of fertilisers, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, it said.

During her time at Niti Aayog, Tiwari mand important sectors such as financial resources, education, and tourism. She played a key role in developing strategy documents for reforms in India's higher education regulatory framework and for establishing world-class institutions of teaching and research.
"As CMD of fertiliser company FAGMIL, she reversed its decline of gypsum tre, and converted it into a profit-making market leer company. Tiwari engd with Qatar, Iran and Russia to ensure equate availability of urea and to safeguard revenue interests of country," statement said.
"She signed protocol agreement on 'modernisation and industrial cooperation' under Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on tre, ecomic, scientific, techlogical and cultural cooperation. She worked as secretary to Government of India in National Commission for Scheduled Tribes for more than three years," statement ded.
Her husband Dr D K Tiwari, who retired as chief secretary of Jharkhand, currently holds constitutional post of state Election Commissioner.
