'Why are parties upset?': Javadekar questions Opposition over I-T raids on Arhtiyas

Union Minister Prakash Javekar has questioned Opposition over Income Tax raids conducted on several Arhtiyas (commission nts at mandis) in past few days. Arhtiyas in Punjab will keep ir shops shut for four days from Tuesday in protest against income tax raids which y allege were conducted to intimidate m for supporting farmers’ stir against Centre’s agriculture laws, according to a body representing m.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Javekar asked in a tweet in Hindi that "why are political parties upset about se raids? what is relation?"

According to PTI, Federation of Arhtiyas said income tax raids have been conducted on premises of six commission nts in past a few days.

"We have decided to shut our shops for four days to protest action of Income Tax Department against arhtiyas," said Vijay Kalra, president of federation. Kalra is among six commission nts whose premises were raided by Income Tax Department. Earlier, 14 commission nts in Punjab h received tices from department. Kalra said department took action to "browbeat" m for supporting agitating farmers against Centre's three farm laws.

Centre trying to intimidate arhtiyas: Punjab CM

On Monday, Shiromani Akali Dal (S) chief h accused Centre of misusing Income Tax Department to target arhtiyas (commission nts). "I warn Centre that more it tries to suppress ongoing agitation, more it will be strengned," he said. On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh too h accused Centre of indulging in "intimidatory tactics" against commission nts by conducting income tax raids on ir premises. CM h termed I-T raids as “motivated” and a “pressure tactic” to curb ir democratic right and freedom.

" income tax raids were conducted on premises of several big arhtiyas (commission nts) of Punjab within a span of just four days of issuing tices without waiting for a response," claimed Amarinder in a statement in Chandigarh. "Even local police were t informed or taken into confidence as is rmal procedure," he claimed, ding that CRPF was used to provide security during raids by I-T teams.

Terming clearly motivated I-T raids against some commission as an obvious pressure tactic to curb ir democratic right and freedom, Amarinder said se oppressive actions will backfire against ruling BJP. Farmers from different parts of country, including Haryana and Punjab, have been camping at various border points of Delhi for over three weeks to demand a repeal of Centre's farm laws.
