New Delhi: Delhi-NCR and entire norrn states are experiencing an unusually warm November this year. After witnessing hottest October in 73 years, region is going through a warmer November too. According to wearman, primary reason for this strange season pattern is direction of wind.

Usually, after monsoon starts residing, wind pattern changes from Eastern and Sourn Eastern to Western and Norrn Western. But this change did not occur for first 12 days in November. It's only in last two days when wind direction changed to North and Norrn western.

This change in pattern is responsible for cooler winds, refore bringing down maximum temperature, which is only happened in last two days, specifically after November 12.

Delhi-NCR sees highest maximum temperature since 2015

Since wind patterns did not change for first 12 days, region experienced warmer days than usual. It is after 2015, when maximum temperature did not drop below 30 degree celsius. However, on Wednesday, maximum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degress, while minimum was 17, which is 3 degrees above normal.

maximum temperature was hovering around 32.6 degrees till November 12. In recent past, it was in 2016 and 2022 when we saw a similar situation.

What's causing sudden smog in Delhi-NCR and norrn states?

October and November are months when farmers fire pdy-stubble and its residue is one of several reasons which causes air pollution in norrn India. But since wind direction did not change in October and early November, Delhi-NCR region did not experience typically 'severe' category AQI. It's only in past two days when wind directions changed, region now is seeing a sudden increase in AQI as stubble burning residue from Pakistan , Punjab and Haryana coupled with westerly winds are causing smog blanket over region.
