Jaipur: In an effort to make the state a completely literate state, Rajasthan Education Minister  Madan Dilawar has announced that the BJP government will eradicate illiteracy in the state within the next 5 years.

Dilawar also promised that not a single post will remain vacant in the teaching positions by the end of next five years.  

The minister was speaking on the occasion of International Literacy Day which was celebrated on September 8. Also, attending the event Energy minister Hiralal Nagar said, “We will be able to fulfil the resolution of a developed India only on the strength of education. In literacy also, special attention will have to be paid to girl child education. When given the opportunity, daughters are moving ahead in every field and earning a name.” 

At the programme, Meghraj Ratnoo, director of the literacy and continuing education department, said there are 80 lakh people who are still illiterate. 

Rajasthan 's literacy rate was 67.06 percent (80.51 percent male and 52.66 percent female). Rajasthan's literacy rate is lower than the national average of 74.04 percent, and its female literacy rate is the lowest in the world. The literacy rate in Rajasthan's rural areas is 76.16 percent for males and 45.8 percent for females.

In May of this year, the state government of Rajasthan declared that private schools are prohibited from raising their fees for the next three academic years.

Additionally, the Rajasthan education department has permitted parents to purchase uniforms and books from sources other than the school.

A committee comprising both parents and teachers should be established to determine the fee structure in private schools, notification read.
