Will try not to implement farm sector bills in Maha: Cong, NCP

The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which are part of the ruling coalition in Maharashtra, on Friday said they would try to ensure that the farm sector reform bills are not implemented in the state.

Speaking in Pune, deputy Chief Minister and NCP leer Ajit Pawar said farmers as well as NCP and or parties are opposed to new bills.

"Farmers think that laws are t beneficial for m. re was hurry (to pass m)," he said.

Asked wher y would be implemented in Maharashtra, he said, "We will try to ensure that y are t implemented, but at same time we will have to see what new issues crop up.

We are studying what can happen if matter goes to court,Pawar said, ding that government has sought opinion of legal department too.He h held a meeting on issue where Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Cooperation Minister Balasaheb Patil, leers of Mathi workers (he-loers who work in APMCs) and or stake-holders were present, he ded.

Earlier in day, state Congress chief and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat said y will "work toger and take a decision on n-implementation of new farm bills." State Congress leers will meet Goverr Bhagat Singh Koshyari on September 28 over issue, while on October 2, a state-wide 'dharna' agitation will be held against new bills, he ded.

Congress wanted both farm sector bills as well as labour reform bills to be scrapped, Thorat said.

new bills aim to scrap Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs). government wants to demolish APMC system and hand over marketing system to trers.Due to this, farmers will t get minimum support price.

Various farmer groups h called for a nationwide shutdown on Friday against three farm sector bills which await presidential assent. three bills are Farmer's Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, Farmers(Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
