New Delhi: With a net worth of ₹11.6 lakh crore, Gautam Adani has surpassed Mukesh Ambani to secure the top position on the 2024 Hurun India Rich List. In 2020, Adani was ranked fourth on the list of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Over the past year, his wealth has surged by 95%, a remarkable rebound following the scrutiny brought on by the Hindenburg report.

"Rising like a phoenix after the Hindenburg allegations, Gautam Adani (62) & family have secured the top spot in this year's rankings, with a 95% increase in wealth compared to last year, bringing their total to INR 1,161,800 Cr. As a self-made entrepreneur, Adani has recorded the highest wealth growth within the top 10 over the past five years, adding INR 1,021,600 Cr, despite the challenges following the report," the Hurun Rich List said.

The 2024 Hurun India Rich List features Kaivalya Vohra, 21, of Zepto, as the youngest entrant, while his co-founder Aadit Palicha, 22, is the second youngest. The entertainment industry saw a significant boost, with its members adding ₹40,500 crore over the past year, including seven new entries.

The Ambani family leads as the most valuable family business in India, with a valuation of ₹25.75 lakh crore. The Bajaj family ranks second at ₹7.13 lakh crore, followed by the Birla family with ₹5.39 lakh crore.

Although the Adani family's value is listed at ₹15.44 lakh crore, it is not included in the main list due to being a first-generation business. However, the Adani family tops the list of first-generation enterprises with active second-generation leaders, while the Poonawalla family of Serum Institute follows with a business valued at ₹2.37 lakh crore.

According to the Hurun India Rich List, India minted a new billionaire every five days last year. Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher at Hurun India, said, “India is emerging as Asia’s wealth creation engine! While China saw a 25% decline in its number of billionaires, India experienced a 29% increase, reaching a record 334 billionaires.”
