A 55-year-old woman was allegedly killed on suspicion of practising black magic at a vill in tribal-dominated Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Sunday, June 16.

Three persons were arrested and a mir was detained on Saturday in connection with murder that took place in Jiling vill on June 2, said Laxman Singh Dhruve, Station House Officer (SHO), City Kotwali police station.

Those arrested were identified as Anil Ram Bhagat, his bror Virendra Ram, his friend Santosh Ram and mir, all natives of Jiling, he said.

On June 6, Jagir Ram Bhagat, son of deceased woman identified as Chhandni Bai, h lodged a complaint with City Kotwali police that his mor was missing since June 2 night, SHO said.

During investigation, four accused were interrogated and y confessed to have committed crime, he said.

"On night of June 2, Chhandni Bai was strangled to death by Bhagat with a rope when she was sitting alone outside her house. Later with support of three or accused, he packed body in a sack and threw it into a dam of Neemgaon vill," he said.

On June 7, when Bhagat ticed her body floating on water surface, accused n buried it in a nearby farmland, he ded. body was exhumed Saturday, after which accused were held, he said.

"Bhagat believed that woman practised black magic, which led to death of his buffalo recently," SHO said.

n, Bhagat and his bror h a brawl with Chhandni Bai, during which y accused her of practising black magic against his wife, he said.

A case has been registered against all accused under section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (common intention) of IPC, SHO said, ding that furr probe is underway.
