Woman Molested During a Party at 5-Star Hotel in Kolkata, 2 Held

Kolkata: A woman was molested during a party at a renowned five-star hotel in Kolkata on Tuesday night, as per reports. 

The police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident, one of whom is a resident of Delhi.  

The arrests were followed a complaint filed by the victim. An FIR has also been registered, and an investigation is currently underway.

This incident ocurred the same day a significant legislative development were proceeded regarding rape after the horrific incident of rape and murder of a media in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. On the same day, the West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed the Aparajita Woman and Child Bill (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) Bill, 2024. This new legislation, introduced by the Mamata Banerjee-led government, comes in response to nationwide outrage over the recent brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The bill proposes the death penalty for rape convicts if their actions result in the victim's death or leave her in a vegetative state. With this, West Bengal has become the first state to amend central laws related to rape, gang-rape, and sexual crimes against children.
