In a shocking case, a woman threw acid on a man, who was her ex-lover; after being taken into custody, she claimed that she was being blackmailed by him.

Aligarh: In a shocking case reported in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, a woman who was allegedly being blackmailed and threatened by her ex-lover, threw acid on him in a restaurant. The man is undergoing treatment and the woman is in police custody.

The woman, who knew the man from before, met at a restaurant in the morning where in a few minutes, the woman opened her bag, took out a bottle and then threw the liquid, which was acid, on the man's face. The man who suffered serious burn injuries, specially on the arm, removed his shirt and fled from the restaurant; he is still absconding.

Woman Alleges Blackmail as Reason for Step

The woman, who has been taken into police custody, has confessed to throwing acid on the man and has also given an explanation for the same. According to her, the man was blackmailing her and threatening her for money; she is divorced and the man promised to marry her but kept blackmailing her.

The UP woman responsible for this acid attack has been arrested but has requested for anonymity.

Man Absconding, Investigation Underway

The woman who threw acid on the man suffered burns herself and is also undergoing medical treatment. According to Mayank Pathak, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, the man and the woman knew each other from before and had personal differences and the man is still on the run.

An investigation is underway to probe the blackmail angle; search operations are also going on to find the man who is absconding ever since.
