'Would Resign if': Manoj Sinha's Befitting Reply to Rahul Gandhi Over His 'King' Remark

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha responded sharply to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi 's recent 'king remark', stating that he would resign if less than 75% of the public affirmed that his administration has worked for their welfare over the past five years.

Speaking at a media event Sinha proposed conducting a secret ballot to assess public sentiment regarding his administration's performance since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. "A secret ballot could be conducted to gauge public sentiment," Sinha said during the event.

"He ( Rahul Gandhi ) should take the opinion of the public, he will be more aware. Get a secret ballot done. If more than 75 per cent of the public does not say that work has been done for their welfare in the last five years, then I will resign," the Lieutenant Governor said.

What Rahul Gandhi Had Said?

Addressing a public rally at Sangaldan, a part of the Banihal Assembly constituency in Ramban district, Rahul Gandhi had launched a scathing attack on Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha, calling him a ‘raja’ (king).

“Aaj Jammu-Kashmir mein raja baitha hua hai. Uska naam L-G hai par hai voh raja. (Today, a king sits in Jammu and Kashmir. His name is L-G, but he is a king,” Rahul said.

Rahul had also accused the central government of giving the benefits meant for the people of J&K to 'outsiders'. "Land is being snatched from the poor people in Jammu and Kashmir and being sold to outsiders. They (Outsiders) are running the businesses in J&K and the administration does not pay heed to the demands and concerns of local businessmen," the Congress leader had said.  

Moreover, he had pledged to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. “Our first step would be to restore statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. We wished for this restoration before the assembly elections, but the BJP was not willing and wanted the polls to be held first,” the Congress leader told the gathering.
