A 22-year-old man died after suffering a heart attack during a cricket match in Madhya Pradesh. According to Police, the incident was reported on Sunday at Katkoot village of the Khargone district.
An official revealed that Indal Singh Jadhav Banjara started feeling an uneasiness while bowling during the match and succumbed before reaching the hospital. Dr. Vikas Talware of Badwah Civil Hospital said that Indal's friends who rushed him to the hospital revealed he complained of chest pain and later went to sit under a tree.
Shaligram Gurjar, a villager, said Indal was playing for the Barkhad Tanda village team which scored 70 runs in the first innings.
“After the team won, Banjara asked the other players to take him to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to Badwah Civil Hospital, but he died on the way,” Shaligram Gurjar, a villager said per PTI.
Meanwhile, the Doctor confirmed that Indal died of heart attack and his body was handed over to his family after post-mortem.
Notably, this marks one the of many instances when youngsters have succumbed to heart attacks due to unknown reasons. Multiple videos showing people aged between 20-40 dropping unconscious due to cardiac arrests and heart attacks while playing garba, at weddings or in the gym.
While the poor lifestyle of youngsters involving drinking, lack of physical activity, unhealthy consumption as well as genetics are the most common factors, sudden spike in reports of deaths among youngsters have raised questions on COVID-19's hand as well.
Earlier in October this year, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya warned those who had severe COVID of refraining from hard labour and rigorous physical activity including exercise. His warning was backed by a research from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) which said that there is a rise in heart attacks among youth who recovered from severe COVID-19.
