India will be celebrating its 78th anniversary of gaining independence if we count from the day of independence.

However, as of August 15, 1948, it is considered the 77th Independence Day. The Press Information Bureau mentioned that August 15, 2022, was observed as the 76th Independence Day. Thus, according to the calendar used by our government, this year will mark India's 78th Independence Day
