Noida: The Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Urban Transport has directed the Noida Authority to create an action plan for deploying 100 electric buses in the city.
These buses will operate on 13 routes in Noida, nine in Greater Noida, and five along the Yamuna Expressway, enhancing public transport connectivity across the region.
This initiative is part of the E-bus Sewa scheme introduced by the Prime Minister, aiming to deploy 10,000 electric buses nationwide.
According to a leading English daily, the project will be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) model involving the UP Directorate of Urban Transport and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
The UP Directorate of Urban Transport presented the project to Noida Authority officials on Tuesday.
The Noida Authority has stated that the goal is to enhance public transport by initially providing 100 e-buses, with the option to increase the number based on demand.
Check Routes and Expected Launch Date
The 27 routes will connect key areas in the district, including one route each to Noida from Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida. The buses will also cover major arterial roads, ensuring connectivity to metro stations, commercial hubs, government offices, and residential areas.
Lokesh M, Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, said, “The Centre will provide the e-buses, and the Noida Authority will assist in managing this crucial project that aims to address public transport issues in the city. We are committed to expediting the project and making it operational as soon as possible.”
MoHUA is expected to issue a tender to finalize an agency to purchase the e-buses and manage the service.
The project is expected to be implemented in 5-6 months, according to officials.
The Noida Authority will be responsible for building depots, EV charging stations, and bus stops along the routes, and supporting the agency in running the service.
Officials mentioned that the Centre will provide financial assistance under the scheme to support operations, while the Noida Authority will cover the running costs.
The Centre will be providing financial assistance for this project.
The Greater Noida Authority will also operate e-buses under the same scheme and is working on the project details. This service is expected to drastically tackle the challenges faced by the public due to the lack of connectivity in the region.
