The renowned social organization Hari Sharranam Jun chief Swami Ram Govind Das distributed Hand cycles to many physically disabled persons, in a program organized at Jugal Kishore Ghat in Vrindavan on the occasion of the appearance day of Lord Banke Bihari.
Swami Ram Govind Das is known worldwide for his empathy for the underprivileged class said that In today's era, the feeling of identity and self-respect has awakened in the individual. He should not consider anyone worthy of mercy, kindness and compassion, he should consider them as his friend and ally, he should help them and provide them the opportunity to become self-reliant. Therefore, we must protect their self-respect, behave kindly, sympathize and cooperate with them and take all possible measures for their rehabilitation. This work can be done by individuals, social organizations and administration.
Ram Govind Das further explained that the first duty is to prevent disability. Today, medical science has developed vaccines to eradicate crippling diseases. There is a saying in English – ‘Prevention is better than cure’ meaning safety lies in prevention. If polio, smallpox, measles, hepatitis etc. diseases are treated early in childhood, then these diseases can be avoided.
Now comes the problem of those who are disabled. By giving training to the disabled, they can be made self-reliant and frustration-free. By training the blind, they can be employed in weaving chairs, operating machines, typing etc. Deaf and dumb people can be taught painting and sculpture. Similarly, other disabled people can also be employed in some work or handicraft work considering their physical capacity. Therefore, handicapped training centers and handicapped rehabilitation centers should be opened for the handicapped. Secondly, there should be reservation for the disabled in semi-government jobs. I have seen talented blind students working as successful teachers. Therefore, disability should not be considered as an obstacle, a disease which is incurable and for which there is no cure. It is not an incurable disease.
The distribution program was conducted on a large scale in the presence of Krishna Chandra Thakur and Brijesh Goswami.
