Scaler School of Technology (SST), Bangalore has announced full scholarships for all the winners of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024. The 36th edition of IOI was held in Egypt from September 1 to 8, 2024. In addition to offering scholarships to the Indian students who brought global recognition to the country, Scaler is also extending direct interview opportunities to zonal winners who earned medals at state and regional levels. A total of 60 students received medals at the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics 2024, with 34 advancing to the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp. From this group, only four qualified to represent India at IOI 2024.

Congratulating the winners, Scaler Founder Anshuman Singh said: “This is wonderful news; hence we are extending our support to these deserving students. What seems to be concerning is that these kids do not get the recognition they deserve, and we might lose them to foreign universities. We must act before something like this happens.”

The following team represented India at IOI 2024:

  • Samik Goyal, St. Peters Academy, Patiala
  • Sushil Raaja U, Budding Minds International School, Chennai
  • Kshitij Sodani, Disha Delphi Public School, Kota
  • Yash Thakker, Garodia International Centre of Learning, Mumbai

The Indian team at IOI 2024 matched India’s best-ever performance in the competition. Kshitij Sodani secured a gold medal, while Samik Goyal and Sushil Raaja U won silver medals, and Yash Thakker brought home a bronze. This marks the third consecutive year that all four Indian delegates earned medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Remarkably, it was Kshitij’s fifth appearance at the IOI, where he secured his fifth medal—2 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. India has now accumulated a total of 67 medals in the history of IOI.

About IOI:

The IOI is widely regarded as the most prestigious computer science competition for secondary and high school students globally. It is one of five international science Olympiads held annually. IOI 2024 was hosted by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt, supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

This highly esteemed competition brings together outstanding high school students from around the world to showcase their informatics skills. Contestants tackle challenges such as algorithm design, data structures, programming, and problem analysis. Each participating country selects a team of up to four members, accompanied by a team leader and a deputy leader, to compete in a two-day contest. Each contestant competes individually, solving three algorithmic problems within a five-hour window to maximize their score.

The Indian team for IOI was chosen through the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC), which began online in April 2024 and concluded with an in-person camp in Chennai from June 2 to 8, 2024. The selection process starts with the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI), which was held on April 21, 2024, across various cities in India. Sixty students were awarded medals for their performance at INOI—10 gold, 20 silver, and 30 bronze.

From this pool, 34 students qualified for IOITC 2024, which served as the final selection camp for the Indian team competing at IOI 2024.
