Festivals like Diwali are among the most significant and eagerly awaited celebrations in India. Everyone wants to excel in everything from decorations and skincare to hairstyles, fashion, food, and more.
Often, in the pursuit of that perfect look for this special occasion, we overlook the toll it can take on our hair due to frequent heat styling and chemical products. It’s natural to want to look your best for such an important day, but it’s essential to care for your hair afterward, as it silently bears the effects of all the festivities.
We have to curated some of the best chemical free DIY conditioners for dry, oily and frizzy hair from the book, The Glow Getter’s Guide To Everyday Skincare by Dr Blossom Kochhar. Check them out…
The All-Purpose Moisturiser
Recipe: Mix 1 teaspoon of castor oil, 1 teaspoon of Amlal Brahmi oil/olive oil, 1 teaspoon of malt vinegar/apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of glycerine, and i teaspoon of shampoo.
Dr Blossom states in the book that “the herbal oil acts like a hair tonic, vinegar restores the acid mantle, glycerine moisturises the hair, and shampoo is the medium that blends the ingredients.”
Before washing the hair, apply the mixture and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Shampoo and condition and feel the marvellous change in your hair texture, she advises.
For Shine and Sheen
Recipe: Grate a few onions and some cabbage together and cover them in a copper utensil overnight. In the morning, add a few drops of yang-ylang essential oil to remove the smell of onion. Add a few drops of herbal oil and then apply it to your hair. Shampoo after 30 minutes.
Henna Conditioners
Recipe 1: If you have oily hair, mix henna with 2 tablespoons of yoghurt and a pinch of sugar to make a light paste. Add a bit of water if the paste is thick. Apply this to your hair and leave it on for 30 minutes.
Recipe 2: If you have dry hair, mix henna in 1 tablespoon of oil and warm milk to make a paste. Apply and leave it on for 30 minutes.
Hair-Setting Conditioner
Recipe: Mix 1 teaspoon of gelatine and a few drops of ylang-ylang in a mug of water. Rinse your hair with this concoction.
To Reduce Hair Fall
Recipe: To prepare a natural hair mask, take half a cup of grated coconut and add warm water to it to make coconut milk.
Alternatively, you can buy it from the market. To this, add 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of malt vinegar, and 2 drops of rosemary essential oil. Mix everything well and apply it to your hair. Leave it on for half an hour. Rinse it off with water and follow up with a natural shampoo and conditioner.
