People around the globe are celebrating 'World Book Day' on Tuesday, April 23. Observed every year, the purpose of the day is to highlight the power of books and to promote open and inclusive knowledge societies.

To mark the occasion, on Thursday, March 21, The Nobel Foundation paid tribute to Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore. The institution extended a message remembering the 1913 Nobel Prize awardee on their official Twitter handle and shared a throwback picture of the world-renowned poet.

Paying tribute to Tagore in a recent post, the institution wrote, "The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence." - Rabindranath Tagore awarded the 1913 #NobelPrize in Literature. #WorldBookDay"

Meanwhile, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCo.) took up the initiative to celebrate 'World Book Day' in the year 1995, following which the day is observed every year on April 23. Also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book, the annual event the is organized to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.
