Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941)

He was a Nobel prize winner. The legendary poet won the prestigious award in 1913 for his contribution in the field of Literature. Rabindranath Tagore was a visionary, and he had a flair of writing. The way he wrote poems was truly mesmerising. The poet is also credited for writing India’s national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’. Amidst tons of his beautiful poems, some of the most remembered ones are On Missing a Dear One, On the Hypocrisy of Faith and On the Soul of Countries and People.

Harivansh Rai Bachchan (1907-2003)

This man needs no introduction, Harivash Rai Bachan’s Madhushala was a rage amongst the masses in the year 1935. The book has 135 quatrains and is a masterpiece by the celebrated poet. Father of India’s superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Harivansh Rai Bachchan has surely left a legacy behind. He was born in the United Provinces of Agra on November 27, 1907. He used to write poems in different languages - from Awadhi to Urdu to Hindi. His most sought after poems are Agnipath, Ruke Na Tu, and Himmat Karne Waalon Ki Haar Nahi Hoti amongst numerous others.

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1963)

Not many people know that Rudyard Kipling was an Indian national. He was born in Bombay in 1865. Kipling became supremely popular for writing relatable short stories and poems. He shifted from India to Britain at the age of five. The brilliant poet has written some marvelous poems like Gunga Din, published in 1890, The White Man’s Burden (1899), and If (1910). In fact, Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘If’ was voted as UK’s favourite poem of all time by the citizens in 1995. Apart from poems, Rudyard Kipling is also the author of the highly famous 'The Jungle Book', which later was made into a tv series and Disney film.
