The joyful Diwali season demands a festive décor, and the best way to outline Diwali is with pretty lights and candles around the house! Diwali, lots of small clay lamps (called diyas) and candles are lit and placed in all the corners the houses. Unique candles can be made using everyday objects and adding a little creativity to it.

Diwali is primarily connected to the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. The importance of this festival is that Lord Rama and his wife Sita came back to their kingdom from an exile after defeating the demon king Ravan. Diwali is celebrated at a stretch of full-fledged five days in Indian Hindu families with specific importance and rituals.

Colourful Candles to decorate your home. Fill your home with beautiful Diwali lights with some easy tips:

  • Paraffin or soy wax chips can be bought by the bag from craft stores, as can be used as ready waxed wicks.
  • Hollowed out oranges make fragrant burners. You can also use coconut or seashells, vintage tea or egg cups, and jars that can be painted in different colours.
  • Warm the wax and pop the wick into your chosen holder. Rest it on a stand or hold in place using tongs. Pour in the wax and allow to set.
  • If even this seems like too much effort – simply buy a bag of tea lights and pop them into your holders of choice.
  • Fill up your home with all varieties of home-made candles, or you can do slight creative embellishments on the present ones too. You can draw beautiful henna (Mehendi) designs on candles. Fruit candles are another wonderful diya idea to light up this Diwali. You just need fruit peels, maybe oranges, but cut it creatively with zig-zag edges and place candles inside them if you love these kinds of candles.
