No matter what geographical region we live in, keeping our body warm is a basic human need we all share. The winter chills tend to reduce our energy levels, which ultimately lead to falling ill. This is probably the reason why getting up to work out also seems difficult in winter. Winter season is around the corner in India, which means that it is time to remember how to keep you, your family, and your friends safe and warm.
Ways to keep yourself warm this winter
1. Winter fashion
Bundle up! It might seem obvious, but wearing some extra layers of cloth is a great way to keep your body warm. Keeping your core warm is essential, so try wearing an extra shirt or two under your coat. Many good companies make cold-weather gear that is thin enough to be worn under work clothes. Thus, you do not have to worry about looking bulky. For ladies who love wearing leggings, try swapping them with long satin or polyester bottom wear. Most such fabrics are meant to dry quickly, so the cool breeze would not leave your legs damp. Also, you can opt for a hoodie which is an amazing way to keep warm.
2. Food that keeps you warm
You already know that eating healthy in winters is important as it helps fend off the cold and flu. Eating extra healthy fats during winters rev up your body's metabolism. Even if your new year resolution was to lose a few pounds, do not worry. You can always skip the extra fat by eating low-fat yet warm food items. Include heavy amounts of turmeric, saffron, cinnamon, sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, black pepper, and honey, as they are a few food items that are known to keep your body warn and increase metabolism during winter. The scientific reason behind consuming dry-fruit or sesame laddoos during Diwali and Makar Sankranti respectively is to celebrate these Indian festivals with food that will also keep you warm throughout the season.

3. Keep heat constant
Setting your thermostat at the same temperature day and night will help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. Do not let finances stop you from turning your heating on. The temperature is coldest just before the dawn. Make sure that your bedroom window is closed and your curtains are closed at dusk to keep your room warm. Try lighting a bonfire in your compound and sit around it in the evening. This will also become a form of family bonding time during winter.
