The different types of sarees that have their origin in the state of Tamil Nadu alone form a major part of the South Indian silks.  These sarees include Kanjivaram silk, Rasipuram silk, Chetiinadu saree, Madurai Silk, etc. Here are some Gorgeous sarees originating from the state of Tamil Nadu.

Kanjivaram Silk

This is probably one of the most well-known silk sarees from south India. This saree has its origin in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The satin-like saree has intricate zari work all over and the borders as well. You will find floral patterns, sometimes geometric patterns along with flowers and creepers all over it, these designs make the saree look mesmerizing. Heavy amount of goldwork can be found on the sarees and these are a perfect choice for weddings or festivals.

Coimbatore Sarees

These are mainly soft cotton handloom sarees. The design that can be commonly found on these sarees is stripes. These sarees are rather simple and meant for regular use. Some Coimbatore sarees have intricate zari work all over along with great designs.

Rasipuram Silk

When going for great silk handloom sarees, Rasipuram silk is one of the best choices. The longevity of these sarees and the durability of the colour are worth the buy. The designs, the borders, and the overall work are handwoven, which makes this saree quite sought after. Due to the design, it takes a lot of time to make one saree.

Chettinadu Saree

This one has its origin in the Chettinad area of Tamil Nadu. Chettinadu cotton sarees are also popularly known as Kaandangi sarees, which are special because you get to choose from a galore of bold colours. These are commonly made of pure cotton, but nowadays, pure silk Chettinadu sarees are available as well with intricate zari work all over the body.

Madurai silk and cotton sarees

As the name suggests, these pure silk sarees come from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The fabrics used to make these sarees are usually cotton and silk. Madurai Sungudi is a type of cotton fabric that is used to make these fabulous sarees, which have zari work all over the body with designs ranging from checks to floral motifs to elephant figures, etc. Sometimes tie and dye method is also used to make Madurai silk or cotton sarees.
