Chhath Puja 2024 began on Tuesday, November 5, which kicked off with great enthusiasm. This festival is especially popular in Bihar and India’s neighbouring country, Nepal. During the four-day celebration, devotees observe fasting and pray to Lord Surya, the Sun God, for life-giving energy and his sister Chhathi Maiya.

What is Usha Arghya?
On the fourth day of celebrations of Chhath Puja, known as Usha Arghya, devotees offer prayers to the rising sun, standing waist-deep in water with offerings like fruits, Thekua, coconut, and flowers in a bamboo basket.
Rituals of Usha Arghya
According to Drik Panchang, sunrise will be at 6:38 am and sunset at 5:38 pm. Devotees will gather by riverbanks to offer prayers and respect to Lord Surya. Facing the sun as they pray and chant hymns and offer Prasad to the Sun God. Only after offering Prasad to Lord Surya, can the person fasting (typically a married woman) break the fast by indulging in the Chhath Puja 2024 feast and sharing the Bhog with family and friends. This final ritual marks the end of Chhath Puja, with blessings from Lord Surya.
